The DC Youth Orchestra is slated to give a free performance marking the reopening of Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Mariano Vales, the orchestra’s music director, will open with a rendition of Beethoven’s Consecration of the House Overture. The performance will also feature Sydney Ebhersol playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

“We believe that playing music is transformational; that it unfetters the soul and empowers the mind in all other types of learning,” the youth orchestra’s executive director Elizabeth Schurgin said in a news release. “It is an honor to share this with the community.”

The Terrace Theater was closed for 15 months to accommodate renovations that updated the space’s stage configurations, accessibility, audiovisual systems and acoustic integrity.
