On Sept. 5, our local Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4A selected members of its newly constituted Special Committee on Design Review. This committee will cooperate with nearby ANC 4B’s Design Review Committee to give community input on economic development projects in our section of upper Northwest. The initial members are: Willow Lung-Amam, Robert Bettman, Penelope Codington, David Mackoff, Naima Jefferson, Ernest Green, Kristopher Nelson, Carin Ruff, Christopher Galloway, David Gillers and Annie Whatley.

ANC 4A is very lucky to have this experienced and committed group step forward to serve the community. They bring both educational backgrounds and vocational experience to real estate development design, planning, investment, finance, historical preservation and policy. Most have been involved in some form of advocacy work and know how to solicit community feedback and deal with government and private sectors. Some have been active participants in the more established ANC 4B design review sessions on development plans for the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus over the last two years, while others bring experience from other D.C. communities across the city that have dealt with similar projects.

They are all working to promote development in a way that supports neighborhood change while looking at diversity, sustainability, the tone of the community and economic prosperity. We look forward to the constructive dialogue the committee will create.
