It is the season for giving thanks and reaching out to family, friends and community. Thanks to the community and a special “angel,” the Shepherd Park Citizens Association supplied coats and other winter wear to the children of the families at Hope and a Home. Bright colors and warm linings brought smiles when the coats were delivered. Our association is seeking contributions to help 16 families who are in need of grocery cards for holiday food buying, and very soon we will publish gift wish lists from the children and teens to help make their holidays full of surprises.
Letters have been sent, meetings are being held and negotiations are in process between the community and the China Hut, in hopes a friendly agreement can be reached to remove complaints and improve business relationships. China Hut has been a part of the Shepherd Park community for a long time and has expressed a desire to be responsive to residents. Good Chinese food is a plus for Shepherd Park.
Keeping in shape with all the holiday fare providing temptations galore means getting in daily walks or exercise sessions. Even our seniors need to take advantage of opportunities. The track at the Shepherd field is open during daylight hours. On Dec. 1 the East Rock Creek Village will resume its weekly series of chair yoga classes on Friday afternoons at 3 at the office on Eastern Avenue NW. The Juanita E. Thornton/Shepherd Park Library also offers yoga classes. Check the schedule online for specific times.
