We did it! The joyous news that the Shepherd Park community had covered holiday gifts for all the children and teens in the 22 Hope and a Home families was shared on the neighborhood listserv. Also shared was the announcement that all the families will receive gift cards for holiday food purchases. Congratulations and thanks to Mark Pattison for spearheading the drive, to all those who participated, and to Morris Miller Liquors for providing the drop-off space and friendly help where needed. All items should be delivered to Morris Miller by Dec. 18. The community food drive for Shepherd’s Table/Progress Place runs during January. Get ready!

Opportunities for community service came on Dec. 5, when Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4A passed resolutions to set up a Standing Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and a Special Committee on Education. Applications with a resume and statement of reasons for desired membership should be sent to [email protected] or delivered to the ANC 4A office at 7820 Eastern Ave. NW by Feb. 4. These two committees, while strictly advisory, will enable community members to explore a wide range of issues important to Shepherd Park residents and make recommendations to ANC 4A members. They will also broaden the flow of information to and from the community as improvements and changes occur in the future.

Thanks to all those who helped get out the latest Shepherd Park Newsletter. Please support the local businesses that help make the newsletter possible.
