Total traffic closures near Kennedy Center for pedestrian bridge project
The National Park Service (NPS) has advised of total lane closures on Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway by the Kennedy Center, beginning on Thursday, May 9 at 8 pm, through Tuesday, May 14 at 5:30 am. The road closure facilitates the safe installation of a new pedestrian bridge over Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway.
Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians will be directed to alternate routes.
Orange Theory fitness to open in Cleveland Park
Orange Theory has started a fitness center buildout at 3412 Connecticut Ave. It will occupy half of the long vacant building at the site of the former 4P’s adjacent to Byblos. The fitness center anticipates a late summer opening.
National Spelling Bee comes to the region
The National Spelling Bee takes place at the Gaylord Conference Center at National Harbor May 26th – 31st.
Georgetown leases Gonzaga land to build student housing
Gonzaga High School and Georgetown University have signed an 85 year ground lease for 55 H Street NW (in NOMA). The undeveloped parcel, adjacent to the High School’s athletic field, may become a new residential building for increased student housing needs. Over the course of the land lease, income generated will also support tuition assistance.
West End Library lauded with architectural design award
The Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has awarded the West End Library (2310 L Street NW) its 2019 DC Chapter Design Award. West End is the 17th library to be renovated or rebuilt, and it was designed by CORE Architecture + design a Georgetown based firm. To date nearly half of the 20 DC renovated or rebuilt libraries have received honors from AIA/DC.
