Street parking can be limited on many Georgetown streets. (Brady Holt/The Current/January 2012)

The Thanksgiving turkey has passed its glorious display, with more leftovers than we can eat placed in the refrigerator in plastic containers. Fortunately, we can proceed to the holiday events that place us in the mood for music such as the Dumbarton Concerts and holiday parties with our friends and neighbors. So far the temperatures are mild, but hopefully we can get a chill that will bring us to stoke the fireplace and share stories about the next big snowfall (located in Canada, most likely).

There are heated controversies involving street parking in Georgetown. Zone 2 parking extends throughout Georgetown and beyond to the eastern locations at Dupont Circle and elsewhere in Ward 2. There is a desire for Georgetown residents to obtain a special district in the area covered by Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2E (Georgetown, Burleith). However, the District’s Zone 2 permit on our windshields is not restricted to residents living in the limited zone of ANC 2E. A request by Georgetown residents for a permit encompassing a more restricted geographic area is likely to generate a controversy for adjoining districts.
