Alice Deal Middle School was rocking last weekend, as the seventh and eighth grade drama club delivered a standout performance of Disney’s “High School Musical.”
Over the course of four shows, which ran from April 19 through 21, more than 100 students sang and danced their way through the story, exploring themes about fitting in and branching out.
“It has been a great honor to be part of such a strong, inclusive community here at Deal Middle School, remarked Crystal Mosser, Director and Co-Founder of Alexandria Music Theater Academy. “The students took on professional material and excelled beyond my greatest hopes. I’m so proud of the work they’ve done.”
Choreographer Salli Garrigan made use of the entire space, with performers moving off the stage and into the aisles throughout the production. Accompanied by live music, the students drew in the audience, which included nearly 3,000 parents, teachers, staff, and community members over the course of the weekend. Their enthusiasm and energy were palpable, spilling out of the theater and into the hallways well after the final note had been played.
